Driving Down Energy Costs

We can’t seem to remember a time when it was like this, can you? Gas prices have accelerated at a staggering pace. From January 2009 to May 2012, American gas prices have increased 82.9%! Families and small businesses are feeling the crunch.

With continued calls for increased gas taxes, the team at AFP-Virginia is urging women across the Commonwealth to bring your voice to the debate by providing truthful balance about the cause and solution to runaway energy prices. Opposing gas taxes at a time when too many families and small businesses are crippled by historically high prices at the pump is a top policy priority for Americans for Prosperity – Virginia.

Solution

  • Gas taxes already represent nearly 45% of gas prices at the pump. (Source: CostofGovernment.org)
  • The Obama Administration has slowed down American energy production by blocking, stalling and canceling private gas well leases.
  • President Obama’s Interior Secretary Ken Salazar was held in contempt of court for imposing an unlawful moratorium on deep water exploration and production in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • North America has 1.79 trillion barrels of recoverable oil. Astoundingly, that’s roughly twice the total combined proven reserves of every OPEC nation. Drilling and piping America’s abundant oil and gas supply is the key to lowering gas prices – and to keep them low, too.
